Short I

Achronon is the solo project of Luxembourg-born, Vienna-based multi-instrumentalist and passionate improviser Chris Novak. Achronon brings live marimba looping to the dance floor, weaving earthy bass lines, groovy rhythms, and intricate loops into his signature diaphanous sound. Drawing on his background in social anthropology and cognitive science, Novak explores the interplay of music, embodied experience, and liminal consciousness through immersive electroacoustic live performance.

Opening time, Achronon invites audiences into ecstatic flow. The solo project of Chris Novak, envisioned in Luxembourg and fine-tuned in Vienna, explores the fusion of mind and music within loop-based electroacoustic ecosystems. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist and passionate improviser, Novak rediscovered the marimba as a vehicle for transformative self-expression, leading to a clear vision: to bring live marimba looping to the dance floor. His signature diaphanous sound weaves groovy rhythms, earthy bass lines, and intricate marimba loops into deep organic soundscapes. Drawing on his background in Social Anthropology and Cognitive Science, Novak explores the intersections of artistic practice, embodied research, and liminal consciousness.

Chris Novak is a marimbist, multi-instrumentalist and music producer based in Vienna. Originally trained in classical music at the Conservatory of Luxembourg, he began searching early on for a freer and more experimental approach to the marimba. Throughout his musical journey, he has collaborated with a diverse range of bands and projects, most notably Weekend Trips (progressive indie rock), New Urengoy (psychedelic progressive ethno rock), and Extreme Mind (theatrical fusion progressive jazz-metal), developing a broad musical horizon that transcends genre boundaries. Alongside his musical practice, Chris works as an independent researcher and facilitator exploring flow, resonance and integration within musical improvisation ecosystems. His academic studies in Social Anthropology and Cognitive Science, together with transdisciplinary work in consciousness and self-transformation, have led him to connect sound, embodiment, perception and human interaction into one integrated artistic perspective. It is from this intersection of music, philosophy and embodied research that Achronon emerged. The solo project developed quietly over the years as a search for a framework capable of bringing Novak’s diverse musical experiences and interests together under one overarching artistic vision. At its core is his signature electroacoustic marimba, developed in collaboration with MarimbaTon, combined with a loop station and an integrated hybrid analog live setup. Achronon explores new sonic possibilities, merging classical precision with contemporary experimentation and creating a space where music, consciousness and resonance converge.
